From director Curtis Hanson ("L.A. Confidential," "Wonder Boys," and "8 Mile") comes a story
of human relationships set in the high-stakes world of Las Vegas during the 2003 World Series of
Poker. UTG attended the New York premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival and the Las Vegas
premiere at the Red Rock Casino, rubbing elbows with Hanson, the actors, pro players, and poker
industry executives to get their take on the first major poker-based movie in years.
Matt Savage, who was hired as Technical Adviser and also stretched his acting chops playing
a, "Tournament Director" in the movie, was our inside man for both premieres.
"We got a lot of respect from the writers (on the Red Carpet) because we were there as the
professional players, the technical advisers, the people that really know poker. So those that
were interested in poker were really excited to talk to us and we gave them a lot of insight
into the movie." –Matt Savage
"Being on hold for two years it was pretty scary to think what it could have been, but I
really liked the movie. I think for poker players and poker fans in general it's something you
should go see. You'll see a lot of the poker players and stars and you get to see actors as well
interact with those poker players, and I think that was very interesting." –Matt Savage
